About The/Nudge Foundation

The/Nudge Foundation exists to “alleviate poverty, sustainably and scalably”. We are a collective of some of India’s best leaders and entrepreneurs from industry, academia, philanthropy, public service and foundations. Estd in 2015, we are a ~175 people strong team, and our nonprofit work spans 3 impact streams:

1. Centre for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (CSDE) - exists to “enable underprivileged youth to lead flourishing lives”. We implement high-quality skilling programs, drive innovation, do research and provide consulting in skill development and entrepreneurship domain. Over the last 4 years, our highly successful "Gurukul" model of residential skill development has graduated over 5500+ underprivileged youth from 10 different states with 100% placements and life-long support thereafter.

2. N/Core exists to “nudge and nurture top talent to solve for India’s biggest challenges”. We run launch-pad, incubator and accelerator programs for early-stage non-profit social entrepreneurs, and support 30+ non-profits every year with a seed grant, mentorship and downstream connect

3. Ultra poor (UP) program: exists to “enable households to come out of extreme poverty”. We provide sustainable rural livelihoods for women-led families stuck in extreme poverty through end to end design and implementation of the graduation approach in Jharkhand. Our goal is to pull 1,00,000 families out of extreme poverty in the next 10 years.

The H&M Foundation (H&MF) is currently developing and funding a collective impact (CI) initiative to target improvements in the quality of life of waste pickers in Bengaluru, building resilient systemic change in the waste management ecosystem.

The Nudge Foundation would play the role of a backbone partner enabling the collective impact partners to attain outcomes and meet the common agenda.

The Communications Specialist is a key role in this initiative which will enable visibility, alignment, relationships and representation of the program and its partners to all stakeholders, government and civil society to meet the further the initiative’s goals. The Communications Specialist will report to the Backbone director and will work with sponsor (H&M Foundation and all the impact partners).

The H&M Foundation is a non-profit, independent global foundation, privately funded by the Stefan Persson family, the founders and main owners of Hennes & Mauritz AB (H&M). Its mission is to drive sustainable positive change and improve living conditions by investing in people, communities, and innovative ideas.

Background on the initiative

The H&M Foundation is currently developing and funding a collective impact initiative to target improvements in the quality of lives of waste pickers in Bangalore, helping change the narrative from waste pickers to waste managers. The foundation aims to take on a holistic approach to improve the living conditions of waste pickers by addressing social aspects, such as education, health, WASH, access to finance, economic opportunities etc, whilst working towards systemic change in the ecosystem around waste-pickers. An overarching priority in the initiative will be women and girls, ensuring a gender equity perspective throughout.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Coordination and Collaboration

  1. Maintaining a communications calendar for the website, mailing lists and mailing interface for the newsletter;
  2. Assisting in communication material and content development for the CI web presence and assisting in content development for newsletters;
  3. Co-ordinate with the team, partner organisations and government for communications and media related requirements;
  4. Supporting the team with media and communications including a video interview, strategic communications, public pieces, editorial outreach and critical event communications;

Strategic communication

  1. Translate the impact strategy and actions into convincing stories for dissemination internally and externally.
  2. Develop and lead an effective communication plan in line with the overarching change & communications strategy
  3. Focus on key programs that require intensive change. Develop new formats for communications that are appropriate and effective for different audiences

External communication, media events and relationships

  1. Planning, developing and implementing PR strategies
  2. Researching, writing and distributing press releases to targeted media
  3. Providing support to organize media consultations for the working group;
  4. Providing support to coordinate with media contacts and maintaining relationships;
  5. Organizing events including press conferences, events and press tours as needed

Journalling and archival

  1. Documenting and archiving all project communication output;
  2. Ensure smooth production of all communication material;
  3. Providing support to other knowledge and communication activities including, academics, research, practice, operations, training and other activities;

Desired Skills & Experience

Basic qualifications

  1. A minimum of 10 years years of in internal and external communication, corporate communications experience or journalism in large corporates or NGOs.
  2. University degree in a relevant field (MBA, language, literature, other humanities, journalism, PR)

Desired skills

  1. The candidate will be results orientated and thrive within a target-focused environment.
  2. They will be highly self-motivated and have demonstrated diplomacy, influencing and analytical skills.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills especially communicating causes.
  4. Journalistic experience would be appreciated, ideally gathered in various, international assignments; experience in planning and implementing communications campaign
  5. Very good knowledge of MS Office tools, social media proficiency and visual communication capabilities (infographics, video clips etc.)
